Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in schools are vital to creating an inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive. By addressing the unique challenges faced by students with disabilities and learning difficulties, schools can ensure that all children receive a fair and equal opportunity to succeed. SEND programs foster individual growth, self-esteem, and academic achievement, while promoting empathy, diversity, and understanding among all students.
Investing in SEND support not only enhances the educational experience for those with additional needs but also enriches the entire school community, preparing all students for a compassionate and inclusive society.
I am a passionate SEND advocate and business leader with over 30 years of experience in mainstream, special, and independent schools. I have held numerous senior management roles both within schools and local authority, acquiring extensive SEND knowledge and expertise.
I served as the Head of SEND and Inclusion for Buckinghamshire, where I led initiatives to enhance efficiency and develop tailored funding formulas for special schools and alternative provisions, all while managing multi-million-pound regional budgets.
I am trained in conducting pre-Ofsted inspections for both special and mainstream schools, ensuring regulatory compliance and driving enhancements to maximise potential ratings.
My role also encompassed income generation through a traded service, which included conducting comprehensive school reviews, teaching observations, learning walks, and data analysis to support pre-inspection preparations
I have overseen the management of the Specialist Teaching Service, leading a team of over 50 educators across all areas of SEND, delivering targeted support to individual pupils and staff within schools. Additionally, I chaired the ASD Board for the local authority, facilitated training across various settings, and led the organization of the SEND Conference for three consecutive years.
